Do you like sports? Do you like golf, hockey, or broomball? What about rugby, ultimate disc, lacrosse, cycling, or football? Do you love soccer? If you said yes to one of these questions, consider finding your next home in Blaine Minnesota. Sports are what put Blaine on the map! Of course, Blaine had a few other things going for it before all of these facilities existed. But if you live in the Twin Cities, and someone says “Blaine,” sports is the first thing that comes to mind. The National Sports Center is the largest amateur sports facility in the whole world! It is home to the Schwan’s USA Cup, the largest youth soccer event in the United States. Competing teams come from 18 countries and over 40 U.S. states. You will also find the Schwan Super Rink, the largest ice arena of its kind in the world. This state of the art facility features eight sheets of ice under one roof! Also, the NSC is home to the National Youth Golf Center, with a unique course designed specifically for youth golfers. What about adult golf action? TPC Twin Cities is home of the 3M Championship, one of the most popular and successful events on the Champions Tour.

If you live in Minnesota, and you want to watch track cycling, you are going to be heading to Blaine to watch bone-crunching action in the NSC Velodrome. What is track cycling? It’s some crazy athletes on bikes with just one gear and no brakes, zooming on a banked hardwood surface. No brakes? What is that all about?

History and Housing

blaine mn new home constructionPhilip Laddy, a native of Ireland, is recognized as the first settler in Blaine. It was not until 1865, that Blaine’s first permanent resident, Green Chambers, settled here. Chambers was a former slave who moved north from Barron County, Kentucky, following the Civil War. In 1877, Blaine separated from Anoka and organized as a Township of its own. That year, the first election was held and the New England Yankee immigrants decide to named the new Township in honor of James G. Blaine, a senator and three-time presidential candidate from Maine.

Blaine’s wetlands and sandy soil made for poor farming conditions, but the area became a magnet for residential and commercial development. Recently, new home construction is down a little compared to recent years, but Blaine still has more new home starts than most other metro communities. The housing market is diverse in terms of styles and price ranges. Blaine real estate values are supported by a high quality of life that includes good schools, health care facilities, parks, and churches. Also, Blaine home owners have an easy commute to surrounding areas, thanks to Interstate 35W, MN 65, and US 10. This town of 45,000 people has major employers of its own, including Aveda, Dayton Rogers Corporation, and, of course, the National Sports Center. Blaine MN real estate offers a large inventory and a wide selection of homes. According to the Northstar Regional MLS,* the Blaine MLS has 385 single family homes for sale. The average listing price is $342,851, but this number is distorted by the presence of a few multi-million dollar homes on the market. To put some perspective on this figure, there are 127 single family homes for sale that are priced between 200-300K.
